An almost 8-hour SWAT situation in Albuquerque’s South Valley Monday ended peacefully after police say a man with two felony warrants was arrested.
Police haven’t said if the man — identified as 30-year-old Jesus Elias Ornelas — had a weapon, and haven’t said what the warrants were for. Police said he was also recently sought by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Police said three children, ranging in age from 5 to 17 years, exited the home during the SWAT standoff.
Ramon Ornelas, who said he was Jesus Ornelas’ nephew, said the family was making breakfast and watching a movie when the police arrived. He said everyone exited the home except for Jesus Ornelas.
“I didn’t want him to go back to jail,” Ramon Ornelas said. “We’ve been close to each other, I know what he’s going through.”
Jesus Ornelas is a convicted felon, according to online court records.
