Credit union breaks ground for city branch

RIO RANCHO, N.M. — Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union representatives recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a roughly 4,000-square-foot new branch at Unser Boulevard and Wellspring Road in Rio Rancho.

The branch will serve retail and commercial credit union members with a full-service lobby, drive-up ATMs and four drive-through teller lanes. It is expected to open in October.

“Rio Rancho is a growing community,” said Robert Chavez, president and CEO of SLFCU. “We know we have a lot of members living in the area who have been asking for a branch near home for a long time.”

The new location is next to Einstein Bagel Bros. and several other businesses in the commercial development opposite Rust Medical Center.

SLFCU is the largest financial institution by asset size headquartered in New Mexico. It serves more than 71,000 members with nine branches in the Albuquerque metro area and two in Livermore, Calif.

The Feb. 26 groundbreaking for the new branch was attended by representatives from the credit union’s board, management and staff, as well as the Reid & Associates design/build team and the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce.
