UNM plans to move reproductive health clinic

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico Center for Reproductive Health plans to move to a new location at 2301 Yale SE, but the date of the move has not been set, UNM Hospital spokesman Billy Sparks said Tuesday.

Anti-abortion activist Tara Shaver said the move was prompted by stepped-up protests by Project Defending Life at the clinic’s existing site at 1701 Moon NE – a claim Sparks denied.

The anti-abortion group has protested outside the clinic for several years but in recent weeks began daily protests at the site, Shaver said.

Sparks said UNM began planning two years ago to move to a new site to improve patient care.

The clinic provides abortions up to 22 weeks of gestation and other reproductive health services, including birth control, miscarriage treatment and counseling, according to the clinic’s website.
