Cast, crew of “50 to 1” will be in Santa Fe Friday, without Mine That Bird

SANTA FE, N.M. — The cast and crew of “50 to 1,” the new movie about New Mexico thoroughbred Mine That Bird’s unlikely win at the 2009 Kentucky Derby, will be at Santa Fe’s Regal Stadium 14 theater from 2-3 p.m. on Friday.

The film crew will be available for pictures and autographs.

“The cast and crew’s attendance will provide an excellent opportunity for our guests to interact with the talent who helped make this film possible,” Rachel Lueras, western regional marketing manager for Regal Entertainment Group, said in a news release.

The cast and filmmakers of “50 to 1” are on a cross-country tour to promote the film.

Cast members on the tour are Skeet Ulrich, Christian Kane, Madelyn Deutch, Todd Lowe and Hugo Perez. Also on tour will be filmmakers Jim Wilson and Faith Conroy.

Mine That Bird will make special appearances during the tour, but the champion horse won’t be present for the Santa Fe stop on Friday.

“I thought, why not meet the audience this movie is intended for, introduce them to the stars and shake their hands. It’s the audience that matters the most,” said Jim Wilson, director of “50 to 1” about the bus tour. “It’s why we make these stories, to share them with the world.”

In the movie, a misfit group of New Mexico cowboys find themselves on the journey of a lifetime when their crooked-footed racehorse qualifies for the Kentucky Derby.

Based on the true story of Mine That Bird, the cowboys face a series of mishaps on their way to Churchill Downs in Kentucky, becoming the ultimate underdogs in a final showdown with the world’s racing elite.
