Bubba Mabry may not be Albuquerque’s most successful private investigator, but when a man named Buddy, sporting pounds of gold jewelry, hires him to act as a bodyguard for a visiting celebrity, Bubba sees it as relatively easy money. “The Man” turns out to be none other than The King, Elvis himself.

Slim Randles will talk about and sign his book “Saddle Up: A Cowboy Guide to Writing” from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at Treasure House. Randles has been a journalist, editor, author, sportsman and speaker. After years of making a living from the pen he is passing on advice to those who want to write for a living.
IN FARMINGTON: Author Anne Hillerman, daughter of Tony Hillerman, will give an illustrated talk and sign books to celebrate the release of her first fiction novel, “Spider Woman’s Daughter,” on the evening of Friday, April 4. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a meet-the-author reception. The library is at 2101 Farmington Ave. The event is free and open to the public.
BOOK ON SLEEP: Kat Duff will have two upcoming signings of her book “The Secret Life of Sleep.” She will be at Bookworks, 4022 Rio Grande NW, at 3 today and at Collected Works Bookstore and Coffee House, 202 Galisteo St., Santa Fe, at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 3. The book looks at the facts, myths and benefits of one of the most endangered human resources – sleep. Duff lives in northern New Mexico and is a licensed counselor in private practice.
IN SANTA FE: The memories of Robert W. Miles and his development as a songwriter will be the focus of a discussion at the launch of his book “First and Last Love” at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at op.cit.books, 500 Montezuma St., Suite 101 in Sanbusco Center, Santa Fe. His memoir goes from 1924 forward.
AT HASTINGS: Clint G. Bridges will sign his book “Spirit Wisdom for Daily Living” from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 4 at Hastings, 6001 Lomas NE at San Pedro. It is a book of inspirational and motivational wisdom sayings.
