ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Ben Grzywacz is on his seventh day in the United States – and he’s having a blast.
The Australian DJ, who goes by the name Uberjack’d, is on his first tour of the States and playing some big shows.
“It’s been an amazing trip so far,” he says during a stop in Miami. “I’m doing a day show here in Miami and then I’ll get a chance to head out and see the nightlife.”
Uberjack’d is one of the “breakthrough” artists in electronic music. He’s leading a new wave of Australian club producers who are beginning to work with musicians across the globe.
In fact, he has deals with Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak record company, Ministry of Sound Australia and Laidback Luke’s Mixmash.
He’s even mixed Ministry of Sound’s “Clubbers Guide to 2013” and “The Annual 2014,” and has a monthly podcast – currently the No. 1 music podcast on iTunes Australia, with a monthly audience of 100,000.
“It’s been great to start out with some of the biggest names in the scene,” he says. “I work hard and I know they work hard too. It’s a great benefit to all of us. We just want to put out some great music.”
Uberjack’d will have an EP coming out on Dim Mak Records in April as well as a few other tracks. He’ll also have a collaboration track with Laidback Luke coming out at the end of April.
“I’ve done a lot of collabs over the last few months,” he says. “It’s been nonstop for me. I do like working with others because you can immediately get a response from that person.”
Uberjack’d says because he likes to stay busy, he’s often working until the last minute – even before a show.
“I use my downtime to write,” he says. “An hour before the show, I’m rushing around trying to finish.”
