LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Williams’ stand on 2nd amendment questioned

Editor:

Mike Williams would like to be mayor of Rio Rancho and his attacks on Gregg Hull’s family shows how much he would like it to happen, rather than discuss his lame ideas for our city.

Several years ago, as a result of a meeting of gun owners, police chiefs and state legislators met to discuss possible “concealed carry” legislation during the time Williams was president of the New Mexico Coalition of Public Safety Officers (their union).

Williams stated, in a telephone interview, that the union would support permits for some people — such as business owners — to carry concealed weapons after training and a background check. “If anybody can carry a concealed weapon, it’ll turn into the Wild West,” he said. “People would take matters into their own hands.”

Nothing indicates that Williams has developed a liking for the Second Amendment or the State Constitution, Article II, Section 6 which states that rights to keep and bear arms is an individual right under both the U.S. and New Mexico constitutions.

Mike can’t be trusted to uphold any law dealing with our rights. Let him continue to be a house husband and not our mayor. Vote for Gregg Hull.
