Police to Add Substation at Railyard

SANTA FE, N.M. — Plans are moving ahead to install the Santa Fe Police Department’s bike squad in the Santa Fe Depot building at the Railyard.

Deputy Chief Gillian Folmar-Alessio said the substation will allow police to maintain a higher presence in the Railyard and give them easier access to the downtown area. She said officials hope to move quickly on the idea with the summer tourist season in full swing.

The department will need about $12,000 for the project, mainly to purchase some computers and other equipment and make some tech-friendly modifications to the building.

Officers will share the depot with the Santa Fe Convention and Visitors Bureau. Santa Fe Southern Railway previously occupied the spot.
