APD: Man with gun in custody

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police arrested a man with a gun near Lomas and Eubank Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the area shortly after 7 a.m. on a report that the man was threatening to kill himself. A caller told a police dispatcher the man was shooting the gun outside, according to an Albuquerque Police Department news release.

“As the officers approached the man, he pointed the gun at himself. The officers then were able to convince the man to set the gun down using verbal de-escalation. The man complied with officers requests and was safely taken into custody,” APD spokeswoman Tasia Martinez said in a news release.

Mc Collum  Elementary School was placed on a brief lockdown because of the incident. The school is not on lockdown any more.
