Lobos’ Gongbay charged, suspended

Crusoe Gongbay, who was expected to be the New Mexico Lobos’ starting running back in the fall, has been charged with criminal sexual penetration and has been suspended from the team, UNM announced.
Gongbay is facing two counts of second-degree criminal sexual penetration and one count of kidnapping, UNM said. Another suspect has been charged in connection with the incident.
In news release, UNM said Gongbay has turned himself in to Albuquerque police.
Because of the seriousness of the allegations, UNM coach Bob Davie said, Gongbay was suspended immediately pending further developments.
UNM’s statement:
“We are aware of the allegations involving Crusoe Gongbay. Due to the obvious serious nature of these charges, he has been suspended indefinitely from our football team. Once this process is complete and all the details have emerged, we will handle the outcome appropriately. As this is an ongoing situation, we will not be able to comment any further at this time.” — Head Coach Bob Davie.”
The Journal will update the story as it develops.
