Police identify officer involved in Monday shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police have identified the officer who shot and killed a 19-year-old woman as Jeremy Dear, an officer assigned to APD’s Field Services Bureau Southeast Area Command patrol.

APD said in a news release that Dear has been an officer since November 2007. Dear was at the scene of a May 2011 officer-involved shooting by fellow officer Sean Wallace. Attorneys for the family of the man shot and killed by Wallace then later alleged that Dear made a dramatic change in testimony about what he saw that day.

An APD spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the discrepancy.

APD said it will release more information about the shooting tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
