UNM football coach Bob Davie told KRQE Edwards has not been suspended, but the school is “continuing to monitor the situation.”
Early on the morning of April 13, according to a criminal complaint, Lobo running back Crusoe Gongbay and an unidentified man raped a woman in a moving car while former UNM student Ryan Ruff drove.
Later, police said, Ruff dropped off the other two men at an undisclosed location and drove the woman to the UNM campus, where he raped her at gunpoint. Ruff then released her, according to the complaint.
Police took DNA swabs from Edwards and he was picked out of a lineup, KRQE reported.
The 6-foot-1 Edwards, who is from Houston, was the starting cornerback last season as a junior. He scored the Lobos’ first touchdown of the ’13 season, scooping a Texas-San Antonio fumble and running 45 yards for a touchdown.
