The Academy Award-winner is headed to the Land of Enchantment for his new thriller “Blood Father.”
The film is the story about a drug kingpin boyfriend who frames his girlfriend — 18-year-old Lydia — for stealing a fortune in cartel cash.
Lydia goes on the run with her only ally, her perennial screw-up of a dad, John Link, who’s been a drunk, a drug addict, a motorcycle outlaw, and a convict in his time, and is now determined to keep his little girl from harm and, for once in his life, do the right thing.
According to the New Mexico Film Office, the production will employ at least 150 New Mexico crewmembers and 500 will be background talent.
The film office also released that the film will have 10 principal actors from New Mexico.
Also starring with Gibson will be Erin Moriarity, who was last seen as part of HBO’s hit drama, “True Detective.”
Ryan Dorsey is also slated to be in the cast.
Principal photography will begin in mid-May through the end of June and will be filmed in and around Albuquerque.
Jean-Francois Richet is directing and is produced by Pascal Caucheteaux, Chris Briggs and Sebastian LeMercier.
