Freddy’s Frozen Custard expanding again

freddyslogoALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A former mobile home sales lot in Southeast Albuquerque is getting a meaty makeover.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is among the tenants signed on for a new development at the northwest corner of Eubank and Central, according Mark Tekin of Tekin & Associates, the owner-developer of the project.

Tekin said he will break ground this summer at the site, formerly a mobile home dealership. The new development, dubbed East Gateway Plaza, also will include a 6,000-square-foot retail building. Pacific Dental Services will take half of it, Tekin said, and marketing for the other 3,000 square feet will commence once ground is broken.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers opened its first location near Paseo del Norte and Interstate 25 in early 2013. A second opened at 10701 Corrales Road last December.

Freddy’s franchisee Ken Brock said the restaurants have done “excellent.”

He is already scouting sites for a South Valley location and said he plans to add a Farmington location this year. Ultimately, he intends to have between seven and 10 throughout the state.

Brock said he chose the Central and Eubank area because it taps into several populations, including Kirtland Air Force Base, part of the Northeast Heights and even those who live in the East Mountains.

He said the goal is to open there by August.
