Class 5A this year is being played at New Mexico Tech Golf Course in Socorro. The 4A event is at the UNM Championship Course, and 1A-3A golfers are at New Mexico State University.
It is a 36-hole event.
CLASS 5A: Cleveland is the lone boys team to have qualified, while Rio Rancho’s girls are the only team from the Rio West area to earn a spot.
However, there are a large number of individuals who also qualified, led by Cleveland sophomore Dominique Galloway, the defending 5A girls state champion. She is heavily favored next week.
The Storm boys will be represented by Paul Montoya, Alejandro Armijo, Corey Haught, Ethan Ray and Justin Davis at state.
Volcano Vista and Rio Rancho each have three boys competing at state. For the Hawks, it’s Joshua Marquez, Derek Jones and Rusty Falter. For the Rams, it’s Sean Burns, Grant Golder and Oskar Wallgren.
West Mesa’s Grant Shorty also will be in Socorro.
- Rio Rancho’s girls will have Candis Secatero, Kyra Plotner, Taylor Sobieski, Hannah Phillips and Dominique Compton playing for a state title at New Mexico Tech.
Galloway will be paired with Volcano Vista’s Jessica Guajardo on Monday in the first round. Valley’s Iris Sedillo qualified, as well, as did the Storm’s Brianna Winsor and Volcano’s Marlena Garza.
CLASS 4A: St. Pius’ boys are qualified this year. Team members are Tyrone Thomas, Patrick McCarthy, Christian Hess, Elijah Wyckoff and Parker Willis.
CLASS 1A-3A: Bosque School’s girls hope to earn a trophy next week in Las Cruces, and have a strong lineup – Sarah Greene, Nicole Spence, Emily Ellis and Rachel Arco.
The Bobcats have one boy competing as an individual, Miles Horton.
Oñate, Goddard and Hope Christian are the defending boys champions. La Cueva, Deming and Socorro’s girls won blue trophies last May.
