Old Town gets some new eats

centralgrillALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An Old Town Chinese fast-food restaurant is gone and a new coffee/breakfast/lunch spot has taken its place.

Central Grill and Coffee House opened earlier this week at 2056 Central SW, just east of Rio Grande. It takes over the spot formerly occupied by Liu Chinese restaurant.

The remodeled 48-seat eatery is now serving the likes of breakfast burritos, burgers, sandwiches and salads.

George Griego, who owns Central Grill with wife Alicia, described the concept as “fast food gourmet.” The food is made from scratch to order, but the goal is to give customers a quick option for breakfast, lunch or their morning cappuccino, he said. The restaurant even boasts its own drive-through.

Central Grill is the Griegos’ first restaurant, though they’re familiar with the food business. George recently retired from Sysco, and Alicia still works for the food distribution company.

Central Grill is open from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
