To help voters in the coming June 3 primary election, the Rio Rancho Observer sent a questionnaire to candidates in Sandoval County who face opposition from members of their own political party during the primary.
The profiles of the candidates include:
- The two candidates vying for the Republican nomination for the District 3 Sandoval County Commission seat, incumbent Don Chapman and challenger Michael MacDonald. There is no Democratic candidate.
- The three Democratic candidates for Sandoval County Sheriff: Jesse James Casaus, Steve Reynolds and John Paul Trujillo. The winner will face Republican incumbent Sheriff Doug Wood in the November general election.
- The Republican candidates for county assessor are incumbent Tom Garcia and challengers Leroy Lovato and Pete Salazar. The winner will face Democrat Antonio F. Montoya.
- The Democrats running for Magistrate Court seats. In Division 1, they are incumbent Richard Zanotti and challenger Daniel Tallon. There are no Republican candidates. In District 2, they are Benito Aragon, Timothy Herrera, Bill Mast and Joseph Frank Ramirez. There are no Republican candidates. The Division 2 incumbent, Kenneth Eichwald, is not running again for the position.
