Fairway bunker shot
There is a big difference between a fairway bunker shot and a greenside bunker shot.
In a fairway bunker, you must hit the golf ball cleanly and leave a divot after contacting the ball. In order to do this, you need to play the ball toward the back of your stance, closer to your right foot (for a right-handed golfer). By doing this you can take a normal swing, and this will ensure that you hit the ball before the sand.
Next, try to keep you lower body as still as you can throughout the entire swing. If there is too much movement in your swing from the waist down, it can lead to hitting too far behind the ball.
The last thing you want to make sure you do is to follow through with a high finish, to make sure the ball gets out of the bunker.
