GOP governors to start ad blitz today

SANTA FE – New Mexico’s race for governor is about to heat up with an advertising blitz by a national Republican group.

The Republican Governors Association has bought more than $100,000 worth of television time in the Albuquerque area for airing a political ad, according to contract records posted online by TV stations.

An RGA spokesman on Thursday declined to describe the advertising, which is scheduled to start airing Friday morning and continue for a week.

Attorney General Gary King won the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in Tuesday’s primary and will face GOP Gov. Susana Martinez in the November general election.

The RGA has been airing negative ads against Democratic gubernatorial candidates in other states.
