Where did that crowd come from?

Where was this?

A Thursday night, a rockin’ Texas band doing classics from Slim Harpo, Earl King and other overlooked blues greats and hundreds of people gathered for a good time – was that in Santa Fe? And it was at night?

Yes, opening night of the free Railyard Plaza concerts drew a huge crowd by the water tank. By the time the Journal North crew departed about 9:15 p.m., that Fabulous Thunderbird Jimmie Vaughn and band from Austin were still playing, approaching close to a two-hour set.

Vaughn brought a full-sized band with a couple of horns and another overlooked artist, Lou Ann Barton, who had a moment of near fame back in the 1980s when she released a couple of great major-label albums. Her country blues voice was a nice addition to Jimmie and band’s sound right out of a blues roadhouse or city bar circa 1962.

Food trucks were nice addition to the concert this time.

We’ll be back.
