Old Pancho’s restaurant vacant once again

JBzsportsALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Another sports bar has fizzled in the old Pancho’s Mexican Buffet spot.

JB’z Restaurant and Sports Bar recently shuttered, leaving the high-profile space near Montgomery and San Mateo empty once again.

JB’z lasted only a matter of months — its website still describes it as “a newly opened restaurant” — but it’s not the first sports bar to quickly come and go in that location.

In 2012, veteran restaurateur Ted Garcia remodeled the space — which housed Pancho’s for decades — and opened La Hacienda Restaurant & Sports Cantina. He closed it just a few months later.

The 6,600-square-foot restaurant,  which Garcia had said can seat about 200, is now available for lease.

Alfredo Barrenechea, a principal at Western States Retail & Investment, is marketing the property and said there’s already been some interest in a potential redevelopment project at the site.

“It’s a fantastic location,” he said.

The corner — located at one of the city’s busiest intersections — already boasts an Albertsons, Jack in the Box and several other stores and restaurants. The area also will soon get Rock & Brews, a nearly $3 million restaurant and bar expected to open this year.
