AROUND THE STATE
HERON LAKE: Fishing has remained pretty slow the last week from shore and from boats. Kokanee salmon have not yet started to school real well. However, a few salmon have been caught trolling 8 to 20 feet deep. Best area seems to be between Salmon Point (the point out from Salmon Run Campground) and Brushy Point. Best lure has been the yellow and red body Panther Martin with the orange spinner blade. Make sure to tip the treble hooks with corn. Water temperature is still in the 50 sand the water condition is murky. Don Wolfley, Heron Lake Guide Service
ISLETA LAKES: Fishing at both SUNRISE and TURTLE lakes has been very good. Early morning hours are best. Our annual tagged catfish derby continues until June 29. Best baits reported are garlic chicken liver, chicken blood bait and worms. Very little trout activity has been reported. Carlos Trujillo, Isleta Lakes & RV Park
SHADY LAKES: We will stock again with 1,500 pounds of rainbow trout on Friday. On this delivery, 500 pounds are the ever-popular fish for the Big Trout Pond. The Easy-Catch Trout Pond continues as such, with most anglers going home with as many fish as they wish. The trophy trout in the Big Trout Pond is running a moderate challenge with success varying on everything from PowerBait to worms and salmon eggs. As of Tuesday, the highest number of reported bass caught and released is six with the action coming off plastic frogs and worms and swim baits. Some really big bluegill have been caught on flies and released, sizing up to 9 inches. Jan Phillips, director
