SANTA FE, N.M. — You don’t have to have lived in Santa Fe very long to know that the Santa Fe River often dries up.
But this weekend, the river not only will have water, but also fish.
Courtesy of New Mexico Game and Fish, some 500 rainbow trout got new homes in the river between Don Gaspar and Old Santa Fe Trail in preparation for the Children’s Fishing Derby, now in its fifth year.
Children 11 and younger can fish in that river section for free from 7 a.m.-noon on Saturday (June 14). After that time, anyone can try to hook a trout, as long as they have a valid New Mexico fishing license.
