ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Sunland Park police officer Juan Salcedo was jailed Wednesday on a $100,000 cash-only bond, accused of raping, beating and threatening to kill his girlfriend, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.
Salcedo is charged with criminal sexual penetration, aggravated assault against a household member with a deadly weapon, threatening a witness, interference with communications and two counts of battery of a household member, according to court documents filed Wednesday.
The Sunland Park Police Department announced Tuesday that Salcedo was placed on administrative leave, the Sun-News said.
According to court documents, Salcedo allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend as she drove to El Paso Friday night — a threat that allegedly was overhead by two of the woman’s friends when she turned her cellphone on to speaker mode, the paper reported.
The woman told sheriff’s investigators that Salcedo had been “abusive, physically and mentally” during their entire four-year relationship, the Sun-News said.
