Formed in 1979, ARA has offices in the U.S. and Canada and employs 1,000 people. It has been at or near the top of the Flying 40’s top 10 revenue companies for more than a decade.
2. Emcore Corp.
Publicly traded Emcore Corp. produces a wide array of compound semiconductor-based products for the fiber-optics and solar-power markets. Its fiber-optics division manufactures optical components, subsystems and systems for high-speed telecommunications, cable TV and fiber networks, as well as products for satellite communications, video transport and specialty photonics technologies. Its solar photovoltaics division creates space power applications including high-efficiency, multijunction solar cells. The company employs 545.
3. Los Alamos Technical Associates
Founded in 1976, Los Alamos Technical Associates is a thriving technical and project-management services company focused on environmental remediation, building commissioning and demolition, wireless communication systems and industrial process control. It serves a diverse clientele ranging from the departments of Energy, State and Defense, to such Fortune 100 companies as Goodyear Tire and Rubber. Headquartered in Los Alamos with its administrative hub in Albuquerque, it has about 336 employees with offices and project sites throughout the U.S. and the world.
4. Affordable Solar Group
Affordable Solar Group in Albuquerque, founded in 1998, provides photovoltaic design, sales, installation and customer service, tailoring systems to meet customer needs and price range. It supplied the components for more than 15,000 systems in the residential, commercial, municipal and nonprofit markets. The company says its mission is to “empower individuals, communities, and businesses with opportunities to contribute to a sustainable future and clean-energy economy.”
5. Applied Technology Associates
It’s been described as a “technology know-how company.” Now in its 39th year, ATA is a precision sensing, measurement and controls firm offering custom solutions, engineering and integration and test services to government, aerospace and commercial customers. A 2010 expansion at its complex at Sandia Science and Technology Park enabled it to pursue spacecraft integration and testing. It also has facilities at Kirtland and White Sands. It employs 343 people.
6. Delta Groups Electronics
Based in Albuquerque, Delta Group Electronics is observing its 26th anniversary this year. Delta is a full-service, electronic-manufacturing services company that offers turnkey services for customers in the aerospace, defense, homeland security and private industries. Employing just under 350 people, the company has assembly operations in San Diego, Dallas, Rockledge, Fla., and Fayetteville, Ark., and administrative offices in St. Louis.
7. Holman’s USA
Holman’s was founded in 1955, primarily as a map and drafting supply store. Still calling Albuquerque home, today it is an operation that specializes in sales, service and support of high-end surveying, telematics and computing solutions. The company has contracts with a number of DOE labs, including Sandia and Los Alamos. It also has offices in Los Alamos and four other states. Last year, it transitioned from Holman’s Inc. to Holman’s USA.
8. Speridian Technologies LLC
Speridian, which has become a regular Flying 40 award recipient, is a specialist in CRM technologies – customer relationship management. It provides a wide variety of software for any business that interacts with customers from health-care companies to call-centers. Founded in 2003, the company has clients throughout the U.S. as well as in India, Dubai, Lebanon and Qatar. It has offices in India and Dubai and in Irvine, Calif., and Washington, D.C. Worldwide, the company employs about 650 people.
9. Innovative Technology Partnerships
Innovative Technology Partnerships is based in Albuquerque, providing consulting, management and support services to the Department of Energy, other federal agencies and public and private organizations. ITP has provided services and technology products to more than 40 of New Mexico’s 89 school districts and other educational entities. Founded in 1997, the company employs about 100 people.
10. L&M Technologies Inc.
