Fire at Boy Scout ranch contained

UTE PARK – Officials say a lightning-caused wildfire on the Philmont Scout Ranch, five miles north of Ute Park near the Pueblano Campground, is now 100 percent contained.

The New Mexico State Forestry spokesman Dan Ware said Saturday that crews were able to contain the fire within a day.

He said the small blaze charred vegetation on about five acres.

Authorities say Boy Scouts were relocated to different parts of the ranch as a precautionary measure on Friday when the fire started.
