ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Bye-bye Paseo del Volcan. Hello Atrisco Vista.
West Side Albuquerque drivers might have noticed that the state Department of Transportation recently completed the installation of signs that rename Paseo del Volcan Boulevard Interchange to Atrisco Vista Boulevard at Interstate 40 — Exit 149.
“The purpose of the name change was to secure the Paseo Del Volcan name for a proposed future interchange just west of Exit 149, the newly named Atrisco Vista Interchange,” state DOT District 3 Engineer Tammy Haas said in a news release.
“Motorists using Exit 149 will find everything the same except for the name change.”
The future Paseo del Volcan alignment didn’t match up with the interchange that now exists, said Phil Gallegos, the state DOT’s district spokesman.
That future alignment will connect with the Paseo del Volcan that now exists in Rio Rancho — the one that is connected to U.S. 550, he said.
The DOT put up its new signs within the past week or so.
