Rio Rancho named fifth-best place to live in state

Rio Rancho is the fifth-best place to live in New Mexico, according to a June study by, a website that compares credit cards and provides financial education.

The four cities with the highest ratings, in order, were Alamogordo, Silver City, Farmington and Santa Fe, based on their violent crime rate, commute time, average income, proportion of residents who attended college but obtained no degree and restaurants per capita.

Rio Rancho has the fewest restaurants per 1,000 residents, the lowest odds of its residents becoming victims in a violent crime, the second-highest percentage of adults who did not finish college and the highest income and commute time.

The five cities and towns that ranked lower than Rio Rancho, from No. 6 to No. 10, were Las Cruces, Carlsbad, Roswell, Artesia and Hobbs.
