ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Former University of New Mexico power forward Cameron Bairstow, playing for the Chicago Bulls this week in the Las Vegas NBA Summer League, was named Monday to the 17-man Australian Boomers roster for the 2014 FIBA World Cup later this summer in Spain.
Bairstow’s former Lobo teammate Hugh Greenwood, who is home in Australia and competed with the Boomers in last month’s Sino-Australia Challenge series with China, did not make the cut for the 17-man World Cup roster.
Former UNM and Chicago Bulls player Luc Longley is an assistant coach for the Boomers.
Bairstow has four fellow Boomers players also playing in this week’s Summer League: 18-year-old Dante Exum (Utah Jazz), Matthew Dellavedova (Cleveland Cavaliers), Chris Goulding (Dallas Mavericks) and Brock Motum (Jazz).
Training camp for the Boomers begins in July and the FIBA World Cup runs Aug. 30 through Sept. 14.
