‘Up in Smoke’ shop burns in Santa Fe

SANTA FE – Dennis Montoya of Española got a call from an alarm company about 10:30 p.m. Sunday with the news that his son’s new shop, called Up in Smoke, was on fire.

Montoya said it took him 30 minutes to get to the store on Second Street, and when he did the flames had been extinguished.

Santa Fe police have launched an arson investigation but have no suspects, a police report said.

The fire is suspicious because investigators found the doors to the business were open, said police spokeswoman Celina Espinoza.

Montoya said the business, owned by his son, Jesse, sells pipes and hookahs and had been open only a couple of months.
