Gov. Susana Martinez in Colorado for political events

Gov. Susana Martinez traveled to Denver today to raise money for her re-election bid, a campaign spokesman said.

After the Denver fundraiser, the first-term GOP governor will travel to Aspen, Colo., tomorrow to attend a Republican Governors Association conference. She is scheduled to return to New Mexico on Friday, Martinez campaign spokesman Chris Sanchez said.

Martinez has traveled extensively out of state in recent months to raise re-election cash. She has spent time fundraising in six states — not counting New Mexico — in the past two months.

The incumbent governor had a sizable financial edge on her primary election opponent, Democratic Attorney General Gary King, according to finance reports filed earlier this month. She reported having about $4.3 million in her campaign war chest, compared to $116,018 for King.

Martinez’s re-election campaign is covering the costs of her Colorado trip, Sanchez said.
