Albuquerque cereal bar calls it quits — at least for now

rucerealfileALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — If you’re looking for all-you-can-eat Froot Loops, you should probably just stock up at the grocery store.

Albuquerque’s only known cereal bar has closed.

R U Cereal? — situated across from the University of New Mexico — recently shuttered, surviving just a little past its first anniversary.

Co-owner Antonio Reyna said the business was doing “OK” but couldn’t afford to stay open at its original location, 2720 Central SE.

“It wasn’t pulling in as much as it would’ve needed to to support year two or three or four (there),” he said.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean the concept is dead. Reyna said ownership will consider reviving R U Cereal? if the right opportunity presents itself.

“All small businesses struggle, but we were very happy and very fortunate, I feel, with how well it did do within the first year,” he said.

He called it a “great idea” and said the owners could build upon a solid foundation by making a few tweaks to the concept, such as expanding the menu.

R U Cereal? attracted a fair amount of media attention when it debuted its cereal buffet concept last year, offering customers more than 30 different varieties of cereal and the ability to customize with various milk and topping options.

Reyna said it had since branched out to include some catering.
