LAS VEGAS, N.M. — A prosecutor has cleared New Mexico State Police officers of any wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a man at his home just outside Las Vegas.
According to the Las Vegas Optic (http://bit.ly/1syflI4 ), District Attorney Richard Flores says the May 8 shooting was justified because Arcenio Lujan’s actions caused an immediate threat of death or great bodily harm to the officers.
State Police had said the officers shot Lujan after he pointed a rifle at the officers after they went to his residence because of a report of a suicidal man.
Lujan had been fired that day from his job as a Las Vegas park maintenance work.
Lujan was fired after walking out of a meeting during which a supervisor questioned him about alleged abuse of prescription medication while working.
