CATCHES OF THE WEEK
of Rio Rancho caught a 25 ½ -inch, 6 ½ -pound walleye at Abiquiu Reservoir on Sunday. He was dragging night crawlers in 15 to 20 feet of water.
Lorenza Martinez of Albuquerque caught a 21-inch, 4-pound rainbow trout and a 19-inch, 3-pound rainbow trout at Monastery Lake on Saturday. She was using a spinning combo with a casting bubble and a streamer called a “magic fly” tied by her husband.
At Oasis Park Lake, Caleb Durham of Portales caught a 27-inch, 13-pound channel catfish on Saturday.
AROUND THE STATE
ISLETA LAKES: Both SUNRISE and TURTLE were recently stocked to capacity with catfish. Another stocking will take place for the Labor Day Weekend. Fishing Hours are 6 a.m.-7:30 p.m. seven days a week. Best baits reported are chicken blood bait, night crawlers, shrimp and garlic chicken liver. No trout reported. A few bass have been caught on worms. Nathan Dewahe, Isleta Lakes & RV Park
NOTES from GAME & FISH: Fishing at EAGLE NEST LAKE was very good for anglers using worms from shore and from anchored boats for perch. Fishing was fair using Platte River specials tipped with PowerBait for rainbow trout and an occasional kokanee.
Trout fishing at EAGLE ROCK LAKE was very good using PowerBait, Kastmasters and spinners.
At MONASTERY LAKE, trout fishing was very good using a wide assortment of flies, garlic PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms.
Water flow on the PECOS RIVER near the town of Pecos on Monday was 64 cfs. Trout fishing was good for some and very good for others. Anglers did well using worms, salmon eggs, night crawlers, stimulators and prince nymphs.
Water flow on the RED RIVER near the hatchery on Monday was 50 cfs. Fishing was good using small woolly buggers, copper John Barrs, elk hair caddis, night crawlers and salmon eggs. Fishing at the hatchery pond was good using salmon eggs and PowerBait.
Stream flow on the RIO HONDO near Valdez on Monday was 23 cfs. Fishing was very good using stimulators, hares ears and copper John Barrs.
Stream flow on the RIO MORA near Terrero on Monday was 14 cfs. Trout fishing was very good using worms, salmon eggs, copper John Barrs and stimulators.
Water flow on the RIO COSTILLA below the dam as of Monday morning was 51 cfs. Trout fishing was good using PMDs, hares ears and small hopper patterns.
Trout fishing on the GALLINAS RIVER was very good using worms, salmon eggs, elk hair caddis and hares ears.
At CONCHAS LAKE, fishing was fair to good trolling deep-running crank baits for white bass.
Stream flow on the CIMARRON RIVER below Eagle Nest on Monday was 8.1 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using tricos, stimulators, ants, brassies, salmon eggs and worms.
Trout fishing at LAKE MALOYA was good using Pistol Petes, woolly buggers, pheasant tails, worms and PowerBait.
Water flow on the SAN JUAN RIVER below Navajo Dam on Monday was 667 cfs. Trout fishing through the quality waters was good using Griffith’s gnats, small parachute Adams, red larvae, small midge patterns and chocolate foam wing emergers. Fishing through the bait waters was good using salmon eggs, night crawlers, PowerBait, pins minnows and wooly buggers.
At NAVAJO LAKE, fishing was fair to good using senkos, finesse worms, jerk baits and topwater lures for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Most of the bass action was on the San Juan arm and on main lake points. Fishing was very good using crank baits in shallow water for northern pike.
Fishing at UTE LAKE was very good jigging slab spoons and trolling crank baits for white bass. The whites could be found at the mouths of coves and suspended at 15 to 17 feet over 30 feet of water.
At ABIQUIU LAKE, fishing was fair to good using spinner-night crawler rigs and curly tail grubs for walleye. Most of the walleye were caught in 15 to 20 feet of water and just off the bottom.
Fishing from the bank at BLUEWATER LAKE was slow but fishing from boats was good using jerk baits, large streamers, and topwater lures for tiger muskie.
Fishing at COCHITI LAKE was fair to good using crank baits, jerk baits and topwater lures for white bass. Fishing was fair to good using hot dogs and liver for catfish.
At EL VADO LAKE, fishing was fair to good trolling Z Rays and Panther Martin spinners at the north end of the lake for largemouth bass. Fishing was good using corn and worms for carp.
At ELEPHANT BUTTE, fishing was fair to good trolling white, chartreuse and chrome crank baits for white bass.
Monday morning water flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 300 cfs and 407 cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was fair to good using worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for rainbow trout.
