The Journal is announcing several newsroom changes as it continues to adjust to new technology and reader tastes, providing news and information to readers when they want it and across various platforms.

Starting Sept. 15, Assistant Business Editor Nick Pappas will become metro editor and Business Editor Michael Murphy will become an assistant metro editor.

Meanwhile, Metro Editor Charlie Moore and Deputy Metro Editor Ellen Marks will become business editor and assistant business editor, respectively.

Digital Editor Robert Browman will lead a new breaking news team.

The changes are in addition to the Journal’s new lineup of UpFront columnists, which adds Editorial Page Editor Dan Herrera, Assistant Editorial Page Editor D’Val Westphal and Las Cruces correspondent Lauren Villagran to the lineup of Journal columnists.

In addition, Assistant Managing Editor Joe Kirby has taken an increased role in the design and look of the Journal, which has led to new, more inviting front pages.

The changes were announced to the newsroom in a memo from Editor Kent Walz and Managing Editor Karen Moses.

“We know these seasoned news professionals in their new roles will help us take the next steps forward as a newsroom, which is rich in talent,” they said in the memo.

Albuquerque Journal and its reporters are committed to telling the stories of our community.
