Big push on Paseo/I-25 project before Balloon Fiesta

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Crews rebuilding the Paseo del Norte/Interstate 25 interchange hope to make substantial progress this month to minimize impact on the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which begins Oct. 4, transportation officials said.

The $93 million project is about 60 percent done, with completion expected by December. Work continues on the flyover from northbound I-25 to westbound Paseo, but officials had no estimate on when it will be finished.

At the I-25/San Antonio interchange, both the northbound I-25 on-ramp and off-ramp just south of San Antonio are open, although some lanes remain closed.

Workers also have extended El Pueblo NE south to Tiburon and connected the two streets, allowing drivers on El Pueblo to access Journal Center without driving on Jefferson.
