SANTA FE, N.M. — A 21-year-old Santa Fe man faces charges that he sexually assaulted a young family member.
The mother of the 10-year-old alleged victim opened the door to her daughter’s bedroom late Wednesday and saw Jesus Esparza-Gutierrez jump out of the girl’s bed, “naked from the waist down,” according to a Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office report.
The girl’s mother told deputies that after he leapt out of the bed, Esparza-Gutierrez pulled his pants up and went into the bathroom. The mother inspected the girl, and told authorities that there was evidence of sexual activity on her daughter’s body.
The girl told her parents that the suspect had penetrated her and that these encounters “have happened on three or more occasions,” the report states.
Esparza-Gutierrez admitted to police that he had engaged in sexual contact with the girl, but denied penetrating her. He said that Wednesday night’s encounter lasted a few minutes, “before he realized what he was doing was wrong,” the report states.
Esparza-Gutierrez was booked into the Santa Fe County jail early Thursday on charges of criminal sexual penetration and criminal sexual contact of a minor.
