SANTA FE, N.M. — Is “The Taliban Shuffle” coming to New Mexico?

Tina Fey is producing and headlining the planned film based on Kim Barker’s book on her experiences reporting in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and Saturday Night Live’s Lorne Michaels also has been announced as a co-producer.

Well, we overheard a young woman, who was being introduced to some other audience members Saturday Night at “Some Girls,” the play at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, explaining that she was scouting New Mexico as a location for a movie in which Tina Fey plays a CNN correspondent in Afghanistan.

Filming in Morocco, the woman added, is considered a little too risky these days.

New Mexico as Afghanistan? Makes sense to us. We’ve got the desert, the mountains … and, as it seems with the news some of these days, the guns.
