Lobo women’s, men’s cross-country teams to compete for MWC titles

FRESNO, Calif. – The University of New Mexico looks to continue its dominance in Mountain West Conference cross-country today when the men’s and women’s teams compete in the league championships.

The UNM women have won six consecutive MWC titles.

Lobo senior Charlotte Arter was second in the 2012 MWC meet and fourth last year. She won the Notre Dame Invitational this season, setting a course record.

The Lobo men have won five straight conference titles.

New Mexico senior Adam Bitchell, who finished third in 2013 and sixth in 2012, owns the fastest 5-mile time in the MWC this season, posting a 23 minutes, 35.8 seconds at the Notre Dame Invitational.

“The expectation is to go in and run as smart as possible and as hard as possible,” New Mexico coach Joe Franklin said. “Make sure you work as a team. If you do that, regardless of the outcome, then you had a good race.”

Competition begins at 11 a.m. with the women’s 6-kilometer race. The men’s 8K race is scheduled for an 11:45 a.m. start.
