Taos festival celebrates NM brew masters

Taos Ski Valley hosts its  Annual Brew Master’s Festival every December, inviting some of the best breweries from New Mexico, Colorado and surrounding areas.

Around 20 breweries were at the latest event, offering their range of beers for guests to sample, according to Jonah Salloway, Taos Ski Valley event coordinator.

Participating breweries included New Mexico’s Tractor Brewing Company, Back Alley Draft House, Rio Grande Brewing Co., Boxing Bear Brewing Co., Taos Mesa Brewing Co., Turtle Mountain Brewing Co., Santa Fe Brewing Co., Marble Brewing Co. and Eske’s Brew Pub, according to Salloway.

Colorado’s Odell Brewing Company, Ska Brewery, Steamworks Brewing Co., Boulder Beer and Left Hand Brewing also took part in the event. They were joined by Alaskan Brewing Company, New Belgium Brewing Co., Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and Oskar Blues Brewery.

Recently, the website recognized Albuquerque’s brewery scene and ranked it No. 4 on its list of the 10 best beer cities. It also gave a notable mention to Marble Brewery, which is participating in the Brew Master’s Festival, for its success at the Great American Beer Festival, which is held annually in Denver.

Marble was named Small Brewery of the Year at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival. It also brought home the most gold and won for its Double White in the Other Strong Beer category and gold for its Imperial Red in the Imperial Red Ale category.

The festival features a number of edible delights from several local restaurants. The cost of admission includes the food offerings as well as a souvenir tasting glass for sampling the beers from the various breweries.
