ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico craft beers will replace New Mexico wines this Labor Day weekend.
The Town of Bernalillo has announced that The Great Southwest Brew Fest at Bernalillo will take the place of the New Mexico Wine Festival at Bernalillo, which was held over the Labor Day Weekend for the past 27 years. The town decided to end the wine festival due to changes in the market.
The Great Southwest Brew Fest at Bernalillo will be held on Sept. 5 and Sept. 6 at Loretto Park in Bernalillo. The event will feature 25 New Mexico craft breweries and a dozen craft breweries from throughout the Southwest, according to an event news release. It also will promote local food trucks and New Mexico agricultural product producers.
Interactive lessons on beer and food pairings as well as home brewing also will be featured at the event. Live music will complete the festivities.
The Great Southwest Brew Fest at Bernalillo is produced in partnership with the New Mexico Brewers Guild and the Town of Bernalillo.
Bernalillo Mayor Jack Torres is enthusiastic of the partnership.
“Events such as this support not only a strong statewide tourism effort, but also support small businesses from across the state,” he states in the news release.
The festival is expected to become the signature event for the community, New Mexico and the American Southwest, according to the news release.
“New Mexico is gaining national recognition for its exceptional beers and talented craft brewers,” New Mexico Brewers Guild director Chris Goblet said. “In the past two years New Mexico has been awarded 16 medals at the Great American Beer Festival and Marble Brewery was chosen as Small Brewer and Small Brewery of the Year in 2014. It’s a great time to partner with the Town of Bernalillo to build a world class festival to celebrate our burgeoning brewing industry.”
