SANTA FE, N.M. — OK, folks, we suspect we know what’s going on with all those yellow E7 signs sprouting up around the city, including outside the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, and the sprinkling of Tina Fey sightings being reported.
Our money is on the “Taliban Shuffle.”
Official sources have been mum, either not returning inquiries or saying they know nothing. A news release went out last month saying the Fort Marcy parking lot would be closed through February for filming, but the city quickly back-pedaled after reporters’ inquiries, withdrawing that news release to be replaced by one not saying why the parking lot was closed, and the official putting it out responding that “no film permits have been issued.”
But we reported late last year overhearing a woman at a SFUAD theater production saying she was in town scouting locations for Tina Fey’s “Taliban Shuffle,” based on a book by Kim Barker, and online chatter suggests that’s what’s going on right now.
Oneheadlightink.com, which bills itself as a New Mexico film and entertainment website, had a Jan. 24 posting on casting for a Tina Fey comedy shooting in Santa Fe on Feb. 4, with a picture of Tina and the “Taliban Shuffle” book cover. And on Monday it had a posting saying that it presumed the actress was in town working on the “Taliban Shuffle” adaptation.
Online sites refer to the Paramount film as a black comedy on the war correspondent culture.
Other evidence of her presence is a photo on tumblr.com that purports to show Tina at the SFUAD on Monday with another woman — who may or may not be a student there.
Whatever the case … welcome, Ms. Fey! Have a wonderful time in Santa Fe!
