ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico State Police have identified the man killed after an all-night standoff with police near Ruidoso Saturday morning.
Police said U.S. Marshals attempted to bring 41-year-old Jason Moncrief Carter of Dallas Texas into custody for an outstanding warrant for sexual contact with a minor, but he barricaded himself in his trailer and refused to surrender. Carter was the only person in the trailer and he repeatedly brandished a gun, according to a statement by Sgt. Elizabeth Armijo, a spokeswoman for the state police.
Around 7 a.m. he threatened police with a gun from inside his trailer, Armjijo said, and officers fired. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Armijo said she could not release information on which agency’s officers fired at the man or how many shots were fired until the investigation into the shooting is completed.
