ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The 9th annual AFD Firefighter 9/11 Stair Climb will be held Sunday with a group of firefighters climbing 110 stories, the same height as the Twin Towers, Albuquerque Fire Department spokeswoman Melissa Romero said.
Romero said in a news release the climb will be held at the Bank of Albuquerque building at 201 3rd St. NW.
It will begin at about 9:15 a.m. after the firefighters are dispatched from Station 5 at 9:03 a.m., which is the time when the second tower was hit, according to Romero. The firefighters will be wearing full bunker gear while making the climb.
Romero said climb is held by AFD as a remembrance to honor the 343 firefighters who died in the line of duty responding to the horrific events on Sept. 11, 2001.
