Learn about algae, amphibians, reptiles

Bernalillo County Open Space is hosting the spring edition of its Naturalist Series at Bachechi Open Space.

On Saturday, Becky Bixby of the Museum of Southwestern Biology at the University of New Mexico will present “Freshwater Algae of the Middle Rio Grande and Other Wet Places in New Mexico” beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Bixby’s talk will address the diversity of algae and its adaptation to living in New Mexico rivers and springs.

On April 18 at 6 p.m., Tom Giermakowski, also of the Museum of Southwestern Biology, will present “Amphibians and Reptiles of the Middle Rio Grande Bosque.”

His talk will include where and when to find species of amphibians and reptiles that live in the Rio Grande valley, so bring a flashlight.
