A Republican senator today tried to “blast” a late-term abortion ban out of committee to the Senate floor, but Senate Democrats defeated the effort.
Sen. William Sharer, R-Farmington, said it was the last chance for House Bill 390 to be considered by the full Senate. The bill remains tabled in the Senate Public Affairs Committee, and the 60-day legislative session ends tomorrow.
The House-passed bill would ban abortions in the 20th week of pregnancy or later.
The move to “blast” the bill to the floor failed, with 16 senators voting in favor of it and 23 against. There was no debate.
