SANTA FE (AP) — Labor unions and the liberal group MoveOn New Mexico plan to rally at the Capitol against the policies of Republican Gov. Susana Martinez.
Organizers say Saturday’s rally will protest state budget cuts and other policies that they contend have hurt working New Mexicans, including public employees and educators.
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the Communication Workers of America, a health care workers union and the Northern New Mexico Central Labor Council are among those joining in the rally with the New Mexico affiliate of the liberal online group MoveOn.org.
The Legislature is likely to be in session in the Capitol when the rally is held. Lawmakers are meeting to deal with redistricting and possibly some proposals sought by the governor.
