ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A woman missing since Friday was found dead Sunday around 4 p.m. according to Torrance County Sheriff Heath White.
White said that Barbara Baca, 51, most likely died from hypothermia. Baca was camping with her boyfriend and others Friday night at the Red Canyon campground when she became upset and left on foot. White said the temperatures were below 10 degrees, it was snowing and there were high winds the night she wandered off into the woods. Her body, he said, was found two to three miles from her campground in a “very rugged and remote canyon.”
“There is no indication foul play was involved,” he said. “We only found her footprints leading to the location we found her body.”
Red Canyon campground is west of Manzano Mountain State Park, which is south of Albuquerque.
