ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A man was taken into custody by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team after a standoff in Albuquerque’s South Valley, according to a spokesman.
Sgt. Aaron Williamson said Michael Quevedo, 34, holed himself up in a home on the 800 block of Dolly SW after deputies tried to arrest him on warrants for domestic violence and allegedly being a felon in possession of a firearm.
“Based on the info the detective had and his history we opted to use the negotiators and the SWAT team,” Williamson said.
Deputies fired flash bangs on the block around 3 p.m.
Blake Irwin, who moved to the area last month, said deputies were attempting to communicate with the man.
“I was just pulling up as they were setting up the road blocks,” Irwin said. “They’ve been making announcements and one of the cops said it was probably a good idea to stay inside.”
La Vega SW was blocked off south of Bonito SW to about 200 yards south of Dolly SW.
Williamson said Quevedo has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2000. He will be booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center.
