RIO RANCHO, N.M. — The first of three regional conventions of the Jehovah’s Witnesses is scheduled for June 19-21 at Santa Ana Star Center.
There will also be conventions, with the same format, June 26-28 and July 10-12 at the Star Center. The final convention will be presented in Spanish. Thousands of people are expected to attend.
The theme of this year’s program is “Imitate Jesus!”
“Jesus, the founder of Christianity, is widely considered as one of the most influential and significant men who ever lived,” convention spokesman Richard Gallegos said. “As Christians, a core belief of Jehovah’s Witnesses is that Jesus lived his life as a model for us to follow.”
Starting this weekend, and continuing for the next three weeks, Jehovah’s Witnesses will extend personal invitations to everyone from the metro area to attend the convention. Locally, all of the area’s 30 or so congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses will help distribute printed invitations to the convention. There is no admission fee.
Jehovah’s Witnesses in the United States are organizing several conventions – in various languages – in cities all across the United States. Worldwide, there are over 8 million.
